Chicken Parmesan Baked Ziti

Ingredients
- 12 ounces ziti
- 1 pound shredded cooked chicken (about 2 to 3 cups)
- 1 (25 ounce) jar marinara sauce
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 3/4 cup freshly-grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh basil leaves
- optional garnishes: extra Parmesan, fresh basil, crushed red pepper flakes
Instructions
- Prep oven and baking dish. Heat oven to 375°F. Mist a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- Cook the pasta. Cook the pasta in a large stockpot of generously-salted boiling water until it is just shy of al dente.
- Mix everything together. Drain and return pasta to the stockpot. Add chicken and marinara sauce and gently toss until combined.
- Layer. Pour half of the pasta into the baking dish and spread in an even layer. Sprinkle evenly with 1 cup mozzarella, ½ cup Parmesan, and all of the basil. Layer on the remaining pasta, followed by 1 cup mozzarella and ¼ cup Parmesan.
- Bake. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the cheese is melted and lightly golden. Transfer the pan to a wire baking rack and let it rest for 5 minutes.
- Serve. Serve warm, sprinkled with any extra garnishes that you would like. Enjoy!

Hi.. Can you tell me how you cook your chicken to shred?
Thanks
Hi.. I want to make this recipe tomorrow evening .. How is the best way you cook your chicken , so that you can shred it? Thanks
Hey Marilena! I usually just boil the chicken, let it cool, and then shred it with two forks. You can place your chicken breasts into a saucepan and pour in enough water to cover. Then bring to a boil, and then simmer until the chicken is no longer pink, 10 to 12 minutes.
Transfer the chicken to a bowl, allow to cool, and then shred the meat with 2 forks. Here’s a tutorial video you can check out as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeVfdYJtdoU I hope you enjoy!
We made this last week and it was delicious! Thanks for sharing :)
Thanks Lisa, I’m glad you liked it!
Thanks Lisa, I’m so happy you guys enjoyed it!
Not enough sauce for my taste but overall wonderful
Recommendations for freezing this dish?
Unfortunately, pasta dishes typically don’t freeze very well.
This a meal it’s simple and everyone can enjoy it.
Made it today, exactly as prescribed and turned out good,my 7 year old gave me a thumbs up and he usually does not like my Indian dishes but he ate this to the last bite.Oh! i did add peas so i would say this was easy peasy!
what is the best way to reheat this?
Delicious recipe! I would recommend cooking the chicken in Coconut Oil before adding it with the rest. I also added grape tomatoes and spinach which topped the meal off completely. Would definitely recommend this recipe to others.
