Honey Beer Bread Ingredients:
All you need are 6 simple ingredients to make this honey beer bread recipe:
- All-purpose flour: This recipe is total comfort food for me, so I have only ever made it with all-purpose flour.
- Baking powder: To help the bread rise.
- Salt: I used fine sea salt.
- Honey: Which balances out the savory flavors here with the perfect hint of sweetness.
- Beer: I typically use an IPA, but just about any kind of favorite beer will work in this recipe!
- Butter: Which we will use to grease the pan and brush on top of the bread to give it some extra-delicious buttery flavor.

How To Make Beer Bread:
Alright, here are the basic steps for how to make beer bread — it couldn’t be easier!
- Make the batter. Super simple! Just stir together the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl, then stir in the beer and honey until combined.
- Add the butter. Pour about half of the melted butter into a 9×5-inch bread pan, and brush it all around to grease the inside of the pan. Add the batter and spread it out in an even layer. Then brush the remaining melted butter evenly on top of the batter.
- Bake. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, until a toothpick or knife inserted in the middle comes out clean. Remove and transfer the pan to a wire baking rack and let the bread cool for at least 10 minutes.
- Serve. Slice with a bread knife, serve warm and enjoy!

Possible Beer Bread Variations:
Want to customize this beer bread recipe? Feel free to…
- Add herbs: Stir some fresh or dried herbs into the batter. (I especially love adding in some fresh or dried rosemary.)
- Add garlic: Feel free to also mince a clove or two of garlic and add it to the batter to make garlic beer bread.
- Add cheese: Add in a cup or so of shredded cheese to make cheesy beer bread.

Has anyone made this with gluten free flour?
Can this bread be made in a bread machine?
Soooo delicious and EASY!!!!! Love it!!!
wonderful tasty bread
I made this yesterday. Used a heavy IPA. It cooked in exactly 40 minutes. I cooled it for 10 minutes, cut in half and my husband delivered it to our neighbors. We both thought it was very good. This morning I toasted it in a pan with a bit of butter, fried an egg next to it and it was delicious! One note, when baking, the butter spilled over the top a bit. Next time will put a piece of tin foil on the rack below to catch and spillage.
This is a wonderful recipe. I’ve made it twice this week. The first time I made it according to directions and used Mill St Organic Pilsner. It was tasty but had a fairly strong beer flavour (to be expected with beer bread). I made it a second time with Storyteller Lager and the addition of herbs and shredded cheddar. And let me tell you this was the most delicious loaf of bread I’ve had in quite some time. The beer flavour was more mild but not sure if that’s because it was over powered by the other flavours or because of the type of beer I used. Either way, I will be making this again and again. Thank you for the recipe!
I love beer bread, and I particularly love this recipe, made with Yuengling. I shared the recipe with my grandmother, and she also made and loved it!
It’s really simple and easy to make. Flavor is awesome but my bread came out clumpy. Any advice on how to avoid clumpy pieces?
Sift your flour and make sure all ingredients are room temp before using :-)
I Made This Beer Bread With Shredded Cheese It Was Wonderful. Thankyou For The Recipe.
I’ve made this 3 times and it is phenomenal. I don’t think I’ll make yeast bread again. It’s easy, versatile and delicious. I used bread flour. I’ve added fresh herbs and once did a salty crust. I used olive oil instead of butter and the crust is beautiful. Thank you for this gem.
