Honey Beer Bread Ingredients:
All you need are 6 simple ingredients to make this honey beer bread recipe:
- All-purpose flour: This recipe is total comfort food for me, so I have only ever made it with all-purpose flour.
- Baking powder: To help the bread rise.
- Salt: I used fine sea salt.
- Honey: Which balances out the savory flavors here with the perfect hint of sweetness.
- Beer: I typically use an IPA, but just about any kind of favorite beer will work in this recipe!
- Butter: Which we will use to grease the pan and brush on top of the bread to give it some extra-delicious buttery flavor.

How To Make Beer Bread:
Alright, here are the basic steps for how to make beer bread — it couldn’t be easier!
- Make the batter. Super simple! Just stir together the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl, then stir in the beer and honey until combined.
- Add the butter. Pour about half of the melted butter into a 9×5-inch bread pan, and brush it all around to grease the inside of the pan. Add the batter and spread it out in an even layer. Then brush the remaining melted butter evenly on top of the batter.
- Bake. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, until a toothpick or knife inserted in the middle comes out clean. Remove and transfer the pan to a wire baking rack and let the bread cool for at least 10 minutes.
- Serve. Slice with a bread knife, serve warm and enjoy!

Possible Beer Bread Variations:
Want to customize this beer bread recipe? Feel free to…
- Add herbs: Stir some fresh or dried herbs into the batter. (I especially love adding in some fresh or dried rosemary.)
- Add garlic: Feel free to also mince a clove or two of garlic and add it to the batter to make garlic beer bread.
- Add cheese: Add in a cup or so of shredded cheese to make cheesy beer bread.

Love this recipe! Have been making it for years. BUT we make it as muffins. Bake about 20 min! Serve w honey butter. Perfect!
I love this bread and make it all the time but I eat it all. Wondering if I can freeze half the dough to bake another day?
I have made this many times. It is a family favorite! I always use Shiner Bock beer.
I absolutely love the texture of this bread. It’s chewy but also crumbly. Served with butter and honey on top, it’s delicious. I used an IPA and to me, the bread was just too strong in beer flavor. I don’t know if that’s because the recipe could use more honey, or if it was the beer itself. We are going to try a lighter beer next time. Hubby was OBSESSED lol so it’s a winner and we will make it again. We served it alongside chili.
Hi! Just so you are aware, the beer amount in ounces does not change even when you select a double or tripled recipe. It currently says 12oz beer for 1 loaf and I had boughten a tall boy which already seemed too much and it was 9oz. Ignoring my gut, I put the whole can in. Compared to your batter in the video, mine is MUCH more watery, more like cake batter, and I am sure too much beer is the culprit. It would be worth fixing the recipe and/or the code so no one else also makes this mistake going forward. Thanks.
I made this the original way, but I am wondering on the nutritional content such as calories and carbs , etc? This was so incredibly good I’m making it again within two weeks to go with Chicken Pot Pie soup. I used a bottle of regular old Budweiser. Soooooooo good! I told the guy at the liquor store he HAS to try it and he laughed and said, “Well, most people don’t buy beer to bake with it!” lol Thanks for sharing the recipe and if you have nutritional content to share, I’d be most grateful!
How about putting the full recipe up tip rather than at the bottom of the page!
There is a “jump to recipe” link at the top :)
I accidentally doubled the butter and it was soooo good! Definitely a happy accident.
This recipe was so good, I made it twice in two days for two different parties and it was devoured both times. I sifted the flour before mixing with the other ingredients and I used a flavorful beer – Pabst. It’s a winner! Can’t wait to try adding cheese or herbs next time!
Thank you so much. I am gonna try this tonight. I’ll get back to you after I cook it, with the results.
