Whiskey Lemonade Cocktail

When life gives you lemonade

…I vote we make whiskey lemonade cocktails for happy hour! ♡

This simple 3-ingredient whiskey cocktail has long been one of my faves, especially for summertime entertaining. I love it because it always tastes super refreshing, especially served up on the rocks with a hint of fresh rosemary or mint. It can be made with either homemade or store-bought lemonade, and adjusted to taste as sweet or as tart as you prefer. It’s also an absolute breeze to make in less than 5 minutes, whether you’re mixing up a single serving or batching a big pitcher for a crowd. And mostly, it’s just delightful!

If you are a fan of bourbon (or really, any type of whiskey) and lemonade, I highly recommend giving this one a try.

Let’s make some cocktails!

Whiskey Lemonade Recipe

Whiskey Lemonade Ingredients:

To make whiskey lemonade cocktails, you will need 3 easy ingredients:

  • Lemonade: Either homemade or store-bought.
  • Whiskey: I usually make whiskey lemonades with bourbon, but any type of whiskey you love will work!
  • Fresh herbs: A sprig of rosemary or fresh mint for muddling, plus an extra sprig for garnish if you would like.
  • Ice: For serving.

Also, if you would like your whiskey cocktails to be a bit sweeter, you are welcome to also stir in a teaspoon or two of maple syrup.

How To Make Whiskey Lemonade:

To make a whiskey lemonade drink, simply…

  1. Muddle. Add the bourbon, lemonade, and a sprig of fresh rosemary or mint to a cocktail shaker. Use a cocktail muddler (or the end of a thick wooden spoon) to briefly muddle the herb.
  2. Strain. Strain the cocktail into a glass filled with ice.
  3. Serve. Topped with an extra sprig of rosemary or fresh mint, plus a lemon peel or slice, if desired.

Ways To Customize Your Cocktail:

There are lots of fun ways that you can gussy this cocktail up a bit. For example, feel free to…

  • Add heat. Feel free to muddle in a slice of jalapeño or stir in a pinch of cayenne pepper to kick this cocktail up a spicy notch.
  • Add warming spices. I also love stirring in a cinnamon stick, a few whole cloves, and/or a star anise to add some warming spices to this drink (especially in the wintertime).
  • Make it sparkle. For a sparkling cocktail, feel free to use sparkling lemonade instead. (Or you are welcome to add a splash of sparkling water on top.)
  • Make it boozier. For a boozier cocktail, feel free to also add in a splash of Grand Marnier.

Tried it with crown royal whisky but did not like it. I think it works better with different whiskies.

    Hey Ali,
Is there any specific reason you have recommended the Grand Marnier for a boozer cocktail? In what ways would It better than using more of the Whiskey I’m already using?

Thanks for the great cocktail Ali. We have a Meyer lemon and rosemary bushes. All I need is a still and the entire cocktail would be home grown. The lemonade cocktail is super refreshing, not too sweet, and the muddled rosemary is a wonderful flavor. Thanks!

I made the lemonade from scratch following her recipe then added rosemary from my small balcony garden and it was a hit! It was the perfect summer cocktail I could make in advance and be proud to serve my friends for a day on the boat.
