So, pretty sure I saw a massive bag of over-ripe bananas on sale at the store last week for $0.88 and bought…
…TWO bags.
Oh yes. I’ve been going a bit “bananas” this week trying to work them into all sorts of recipes. So keep your eyes “peeled” for some stellar banana baked goods coming soon. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.) ;)
But anytime I have good bananas in the house, I can’t resist making one of my favorite protein-rich treats for breakfast — this Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie! I posted a version of this back in the early early days of the blog, and then deleted it because the photos looked unbelievably unappetizing. But I’ve tweaked the recipe since then and updated the photos. And lemme tell ya — this is a darn good smoothie.
It’s easy to make, full of all sorts of delicious and healthy and protein-rich ingredients, and it’s the perfect use for ripe or overripe bananas. So tap into your inner Curious George and give it a go…

As with any smoothie, this one takes about 2.1938 minutes to make. Super duper easy. Here’s how:

Let’s start with the ingredients. No big surprises here — just some Greek yogurt, milk (any kind), vanilla, ice and of course the peanut butter and banana. I also usually add in some flax seed and/or chia seeds nowadays, but do what you wish.

Pop them all in your blender and pulse until smooth…

And then this banana-peanut-buttery deliciousness is yours to enjoy. It tastes great, and will give you the energy and nutrients to make your day all the greater as well.
Enjoy!!!

Goats milk makes it extra good !
Love this recipe! Thank you for it! I have a question – if I use vanilla greek yogurt (Chobani, to be exact) should I omit the vanilla extract? I love vanilla but I enjoy the other flavors in this. Thanks for any suggestion!
Question: if I wanted to add real almonds to this, how could I and how many as to not to overpower the rest of the yummy ingredients?
Sure thing! You could add in 1/4 cup of almonds or so to give it some extra protein and almond-flavor.
Oh my gosh – I literally JUST finished making this and YUM!!!
Love the peanut butter banana smoothie, I have gastroparesis and I am only able to tolerate a mostly liquid diet. I was wondering how many calories are in the smoothie and also it says it’s for 2 servings, mine only came out to maybe a cup and a half. What is a serving size? I was looking at your picture of it and it looks like a lot more than I wound up with.
Thanks,

I can’t remember, but I may have made extra for the photos. For nutrition facts, you can reference myfitnesspal.com. Sorry, we do not have the tools to calculate 100% accurate nutrition facts for the site, so I refer people to My Fitness Pal for a close estimate.

I was wondering if you could use frozen fruits and avoid the ice or do you need the ice. My kids are forever forgetting to fill our ice trays. Makes me crazy.
thanks

Hi Lisa,
Absolutely! :)

I just got this new milk that was an almond and coconut blend. It has been amazing in smoothies.
My husband and I each had this for breakfast this morning and we are in love with them. So delicious and simple. I wish our bananas had been a little more ripe, but we added some sugar, a bit more vanilla, and they were perfection! And it’s almost lunchtime and I’m not even the slightest bit hungry. Yay for delicious and filling!
This is one of my absolute favorite smoothies. I love it after my workouts and as a late night snack. Your photos have me wanting to grab a straw.
Aside from REALLY wanting a smoothie now, you’ve got me really wanting a decent blender too.
