So, pretty sure I saw a massive bag of over-ripe bananas on sale at the store last week for $0.88 and bought…
…TWO bags.
Oh yes. I’ve been going a bit “bananas” this week trying to work them into all sorts of recipes. So keep your eyes “peeled” for some stellar banana baked goods coming soon. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.) ;)
But anytime I have good bananas in the house, I can’t resist making one of my favorite protein-rich treats for breakfast — this Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie! I posted a version of this back in the early early days of the blog, and then deleted it because the photos looked unbelievably unappetizing. But I’ve tweaked the recipe since then and updated the photos. And lemme tell ya — this is a darn good smoothie.
It’s easy to make, full of all sorts of delicious and healthy and protein-rich ingredients, and it’s the perfect use for ripe or overripe bananas. So tap into your inner Curious George and give it a go…

As with any smoothie, this one takes about 2.1938 minutes to make. Super duper easy. Here’s how:

Let’s start with the ingredients. No big surprises here — just some Greek yogurt, milk (any kind), vanilla, ice and of course the peanut butter and banana. I also usually add in some flax seed and/or chia seeds nowadays, but do what you wish.

Pop them all in your blender and pulse until smooth…

And then this banana-peanut-buttery deliciousness is yours to enjoy. It tastes great, and will give you the energy and nutrients to make your day all the greater as well.
Enjoy!!!

I love the makings for this smoothie – so simple & so good. It makes a nice surprise for your significant other on a Sunday morning, or ANY day for breakfast/Brunch.
We hope you like it, Jan!
Peel ripe bananas ( the riper the sweeter and healthier) and put them in a bag in the freezer. When ready to make smoothie, put liquid in first and inch cubes of the frozen bananas in last. Blend. You won’t need any ice because the frozen bananas make it like a milk shake. Yum Yum! Enjoy!!!
Thanks for sharing, Merrie! : )
Do you have the nutrition fact.
I’m sorry Alma, but we actually don’t publish nutrition facts on the site. The nutrition calculators available are not 100% accurate, and we never want to publish anything that might be misleading. However, many of our readers love the My Fitness Pal nutrition calculator, so feel free to try that for an estimate. Hope this was helpful!
Yummy!!! Just made the Peanut Butter/Banana Smoothie and its really good. Its not very over powering of any ingredient. I made it after my workout and it filled me up. It was first time using Almond Milk so delicious. I will try the other recipes as well.
Thanks Rae, I appreciate you giving it a go!
sounds yummy!! How much flax seed should I add? I don’t want it to overpower it!
A teaspoon or two would be great!
How many calories are in the peanut butter banana shake?
I add spinach to this same combo. And love it!
Thank you so much for pinning this smoothie. Finally, something I think I can make and enjoy. I’ll let you know my results!
As someone trying to get over my sugar addiction, this was a lifesaver tonight when I craved something sweet and delicious!
I omitted the ice cubes in lieu of my frozen bananas and it was amazing! Thank you so much for helping me keep my goals on track!
Wow! I just love banana and peanut butter together, but in a smoothie too?!? This is definitely going to be tomorrow’s breakfast! Just wondering, how does an ordinary blender go with the ice? Cos I’m looking to upgrade. I’ve been reading about the Optimum 9400 and it seems to be a cheaper equivelant to the Vitamix. What’s your opinion?
Hey Emily!
I actually don’t know much about that model. Most blenders do a decent job with ice, but to be sure, the power that comes with a Vitamix or Blendtec or other high powered blenders definitely grind up ice much easier. Let me know what you find out though! :)
