The Artist
Evan Robertson’s creations begin with his bookshelf. Starting with the underlined passages in his favourite paperbacks, he then brainstorms possible companion images. Sometimes it only takes a few sketches, other times it takes dozens before he discovers the right one. From there, he creates a master sketch that he finalizes on the computer.
Robertson honours each author’s well-chosen words with his own thoughtful creative images. I appreciate the precision of the illustrations — they are each exactly what they need to be. Some prints are stark and spare and others are meticulously detailed.

Besides Fitzgerald, the list of authors runs like this — Jane Austen, Emily Brontë, ee cummings,T. S. Eliot, William Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway, John Keats, Jack London, George Orwell, Edgar Allen Poe, Kurt Vonegut, Oscar Wilde, Virginia Woolf — and it keeps going.

“No amount of fire or freshness can challenge what a man will store up in his ghostly heart.” —Nick Carraway
Oooh. Good one.
Of course, not! I’ve only read Gatsby myself. But now I certainly plan to read more!
Is The Offshore Pirate about pirates?! I might love that one…or at least like it.
Ha! :) I have a feeling it’s not technically about pirates…
Poop (deck). hahahahahahaha.
I have read Tender is the Night, but no doubt about it, Gatsby is my fav.
Gatsby is the only Fitzgerald book I’ve ever read, so I’ll say it’s my fave. :)
I’m a Gatsby fan! :)
Fav quote – “I want to know you moved and breathed in the same world with me.”
Ooh. Nice one.
My fav by him is a short story you may have heard of – The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
My favorite is The Great Gatsby!
I just finished “Z” the novel about Zelda Fitzgerald and I can’t wait to reread the Great Gatsby. Knowing a little bit more about their lives makes the story better for me, even though they had a difficult time.
I always love knowing a bit of backstory. What did you think of “Z” — would you recommend it?
My fav Fitz is actually a short story called “Return to Babylon.” Just heartbreakingly brilliant.
Well, then I definitely need to read it.
I am usually a fan of heartbreakingly beautiful.
