The Artist
Evan Robertson’s creations begin with his bookshelf. Starting with the underlined passages in his favourite paperbacks, he then brainstorms possible companion images. Sometimes it only takes a few sketches, other times it takes dozens before he discovers the right one. From there, he creates a master sketch that he finalizes on the computer.
Robertson honours each author’s well-chosen words with his own thoughtful creative images. I appreciate the precision of the illustrations — they are each exactly what they need to be. Some prints are stark and spare and others are meticulously detailed.

Besides Fitzgerald, the list of authors runs like this — Jane Austen, Emily Brontë, ee cummings,T. S. Eliot, William Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway, John Keats, Jack London, George Orwell, Edgar Allen Poe, Kurt Vonegut, Oscar Wilde, Virginia Woolf — and it keeps going.

Gatsby of course!
I’m in the same boat as Talia. Haven’t read other Fitzgerald, but after rereading The Great Gatsby, I want to read more of his works.
I wish I could say that I’ve read more Fitzgerald than just Gatsby, but alas — Gatsby is the winner by default :)
My favorite Fitzgerald book is The Great Gatsby.
Why Gatsby is, of course!
For the pure over-the-top excess and tragedy, Gatsby is fabulous. However, the heartwrenchingly tragic “Tender is the Night” rates very highly in my, uh, book!
Gatsby, but I need more Fitzgerald in my life!
I mean, I know Gatsby is not really a romantic *comedy*, but if it were, Nick Carraway = Nick from “The New Girl”? Eh? Maybe? I could picture it.
Haven’t seen The New Girl — so I can’t say. I’m intrigued by the romantic comedy idea of Gatsby, though… Hrm…
Looking forward to reading more Fitzgerald. Re-reading Gatsby for the first time in 25 years:)
favorite fitzgerald: gatsby. favorite character: gatsby.
