Just when I thought I had tried every rice crispy treat recipe under the sun….this recipe shows up on StumbleUpon.

I may or may not have immediately run to the store to by a cake mix to make it.

And…had a little too much fun playing with those gorgeous, colorful sprinkles.

And…enjoyed every single, glorious, hint-of-cake-batter-flavored bite.

And…shared the rest with friends so that I didn’t eat too many bites.

And…now I share it with all of you.

And…you should make some.

:)

You will love this bright and colorful cake batter rice crispy treats recipe! Great for special occasions!

Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 (10 oz.) bag of mini-marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup yellow cake mix (the dry cake mix, not prepared into a batter!)
  • 5 cups crispy rice cereal
  • 1 (1.75 oz.) container of sprinkles

Instructions

  • Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat and add marshmallows. Stir until they begin to melt, then remove from heat. Whisk in the (dry) cake mix, then stir in cereal so it is completely coated with marshmallow mixture. Sprinkle in half of the sprinkles and briefly stir. (Don’t stir too much or the sprinkles will bleed out their color.) Press the mixture into a baking dish (any size will do) and top with remaining sprinkles. Let sit for about 30 minutes before cutting. I find spraying a knife with nonstick spray helps to cut them cleanly.
  • *Disclaimer: You consume dry cake mix at your own risk.*

I made these and I added mini m&m’s to the mix because I love chocolate so much I feel that every treat needs some in it. They were delicious!

    We don’t bake these right?

I made these with gluten free rice krispies and 1/4 cup gluten free cake mix. I think increasing the amount of batter as there wasn’t a wow of taste. I did add some pure vanilla as well. I usually make the treats in the microwave but couldn’t find a cake batter recipe made that way, but will try it next time! The Florida heat made the kitchen hot with these on the stovetop and dinner in the oven. These taste good as do plain treats and I can’t stop eating them.

I just made these and they are great…has a similar flavor to birthday cake ice cream. My friend tried them and she’s not really into sweets and she loved them.

U could add the remaining cake mix to a sm package of cool whip, add 4tbls of lemon juice, 1 egg and mix into a dough. Dough will be gooey.! Scoop out into small balls, “iceream scoop works the best.” drop into xxx sugar toss and bake at 350 for 8-9 minutes, cookies will be soft but will harden slightly upon cooling.! works with all kinds of cake mixes . 1 package of cake mix, 1 egg, 1 sm pk of coolwhip, 2 cups of xxx for tossing. the missing 1/4 cup of cake mix wont b missed for these cookies.

Discovered this recipe on Pinterest and made these for Easter and they were a HUGE hit!!! Disappeared in minutes, and that is with me eating a 1/4 of the pan. I love rice crispy treats and now I love them even more and this will be the only way I make them here on out!

Thank you so much for sharing!

I loved these but will be using about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of cake mix as even with 1/3 I couldn’t taste it too much. (Maybe different mixes make a difference.)

Ashley – to soften them just stick them in the microwave on a paper towel. I did a small chunk, maybe 4×4 for 10 seconds and it worked perfectly. :)
